Day 20 - North Korea

In North Korea, persecution is severe and relentless. The government views Christianity as a foreign ideology and the only religion allowed is the Juche which consists of solely worshipping the Kim family. If caught with a Bible, praying, or talking about Jesus, North Koreans risk being arrested, sent to concentration camps, and even executed. Entire families can suffer if one family member is caught being a Christian. Bibles are illegal in North Korea and must be kept secret and smuggled from city to city. Praise

• Praise God for the many ethnic Korean Christians living in the neighboring provinces of China. Many try to shelter North Korean refugees and share the gospel with them, but they are punished if caught harboring refugees.
• Praise God for the many refugees who find Jesus through the kindness of Christians who help them. We also praise you that some converted North Korean escapees return home to take back the gospel at extreme risk to their own lives.

Prayer

• Pray for the Chinese authorities who are caught between the international pressure against the inhumane repatriation of North Korean refugees and the awkward loyalty that China maintains with North Korea.
• Pray for the North Korean refugees in China who must live in hiding and are hunted by Chinese and North Korean agents.
• Pray for the 70% – 90% of female refugees who are forced into marriages or sold into the sex trade.
