Populating Your Life Group
How Do I Populate My Life Group?
The best way to grow your Life Group is through personal invitation. A smile, a handshake, or even a simple text or phone call can go a long way in making someone feel welcome. Whether you meet someone in the rows of a Shepherd Church service or bump into them at a local coffee shop, extend that invitation!
Another important step is to let the Life Groups staff know your group is OPEN before a new series begins. When your group is marked open, it will be published on the Life Groups website with a sign-up page, making it visible for new people to join. But remember this: no tool or webpage can ever replace the impact of a personal invitation from you.
This is your Life Group. Take ownership of it and actively invite people. If you hear someone mention they’re looking for community, don’t hesitate—invite them to yours!
Two Ways People Can Join Your Group
1. Through Personal Invitation
If you invite someone personally, here’s what to do:
Log in to the Leader’s Toolbox on the Life Groups website.
Find your Life Group listing.
Scroll down to “Add Member.”
Enter the new member’s name, email, and home address.
Once added, send them a reminder 24–48 hours before the meeting with the details (When, Where, and What). Confirm attendance and encourage preparation.
For virtual groups, don’t forget to provide login details.
2. Through the Life Groups Website
If someone signs up for your group online:
A potential member will visit lifegroups.org and see your group listed as open.
After they sign up, you’ll receive an email from Life Groups staff with their information.
Call them personally to welcome them, share your group details, and confirm attendance.
If they can’t commit, mark them as Inactive in the Leader’s Toolbox. If they join, mark them as Active.
As with personal invitations, send a reminder 24–48 hours before the meeting with all the details.
For virtual groups, provide login information.
At the end of the day, remember: you are the heartbeat of your group. The more intentional you are in inviting and following up, the more your group will grow into a thriving community.
