At Life Group New Leader Training, one of the topics spoken about is that of “Group Multiplication”.

If you recall, you’ll remember that we talk about creating a new group before week 1 of leading your own group…

But why?

Why would we present that sort of idea before you’ve even had a week of gathering with your group?

Well, we do so because it is important for all of us as Life Group Leaders to hear and take in the fact that it is okay for a new group to start out of your group.

Because it is important to contemplate the beginning of new groups at Shepherd. We don’t want it to be taboo or a scary thought when it is in the future. If we want more and new groups, why not start by inviting new leaders out of our current groups.

We want starting a new group as something that can be fun, powerful, and encouraging to a new group leader!

Below are some introductory thoughts on “How to” help start a new Life Group from within your own group! Check them out!

Number 1: It is okay to start a new group! – There may be an atmosphere of “My Life Group is my ride or die group” and I’m never leaving them! But … What if we told you that it is okay for your group to be a launching pad for new groups to begin? What if the goal was to be a group where you foster so much spiritual growth that people in your group feel encouraged to go out and lead their own group? That’s the atmosphere we hope our Life Groups provide. Let your Life Group be a place people enjoy conversation, spiritual growth, encouragement, care, and support, but also a place where they feel encouraged to maybe start their own group!

Number 2: Be in prayer for yourself and the potential new group leader from your group. – If there is someone in your group ready to lead a Life Group, pray for them. Pray for yourself. Pray that God makes it lovingly and abundantly clear that is that person’s time to lead and your responsibility to encourage them to step out in faith and lead their own Life Group.

Number 3: Ask the potential new group leader if you can make an announcement inviting your current group to pray over the potential group leader. – Once you know that it’ll be the time for the potential new group leader to take their next step, invite your Life Group to pray over this person and to pray words that will encourage them to pursue leading their own Life Group.

Number 4: Ask if there are people from your current group to go with the new group leader to help launch the group. – One of the most encouraging things that could happen for the new group leader is to launch their group, with folks from your current group. This could serve as a boost of confidence for all involved as it’ll take faith to leave the current group, go and start a new group, but also, for you as the leader to let go of those awesome folks in your group and see them succeed in a group.

Number 5: Attend the New Leader Training with the leader who’s graduating from your group into leading their own group. – Lastly, for you as the Life Group Leader, attend the New Leader Training with the person graduating from your group. Sit with them and be a smiling, encouraging, and loving cheerleader of the leap of faith they are taking. This will be an awesome time for them as they will be taking in a base level training on leading a group with their previous Life Group Leader sitting with them, encouraging them.

This may be particularly tough if there's someone in your Life Group that has been always present, always ready, and always willing to take the next step in their growth..

If that's the case, then maybe help them take their next step because you may have the next generation of Life Group Leader in your group.
